FAQ

Q. So, what is it you wise guys do exactly?

A. The Luminor Sign Co is one part old school sign shop, one part analog design studio. Hand lettering is at the core of what we do.

Q. Hand lettering, what’s that?

A. Lettering by hand - no fonts, no typefaces, no vinyl. Everything we make here; from humble paper signs all the way up to ornate, gold leaf, glass shop fronts has been designed and crafted by hand.

Q. Nice! Can you design me a logo?

A. Yes we can. We apply our lettering to branding, murals, vehicles, shop fascia’s, menu’s, lion enclosures (yes really)! We are lucky to have a lovely mix of work, but we approach every project by asking the same question - how did this used to be made? How can we make this by hand and keep it real?

Q. How much will a sign cost me?

A. We’re going to need a bit of detail from you for that, can you tell us: A brief outline of what you’re looking for along with:

- Measurements

- Location and surface we are painting onto

- The copy required

- In situ photographs where possible

Q. Where are you based and can I visit you?

A. We’re based in a shop on 47 Roman Rd and you’re welcome to pop in and say hello - our best projects are the ones where we have gotten to know our clients. Please give us a bit of notice if you’re planning on dropping in as we’re often in the basement drawing or out painting!

Q. Where do you draw your inspiration from?

A. Ged Palmer, our Founder spends his lonely nights trawling the dark recesses of the internet looking for rare calligraphy and sign writing books from the 19th and early 20th C. Other than that we just like to keep our eyes and ears open and see all the wonderful design and architecture out there in the cities across the world.

We take pride in clean work but a painted line is always gonna have the odd wobble here and there. It's what gives our signs life.
